It’s fun because there are so many bathroom decors and fixtures that you can choose from, but it is also challenging especially if you don’t have any background or experience in interior decorating.

Changing Your Bathroom Decor

The first thing you have to do if you want to change the look of your bathroom is to identify who is going to use the bathroom and to make an inventory of what fixtures and bathroom decor are already available. Next, you will have to decide on which colors to use, keeping in mind that darker shades will make the area smaller and lighter shades will open up your space.

Other ways of making the bathroom look bigger are to install a skylight, put up plenty of mirrors, or install bright lighting.

Small or Large Bathroom?

In case you have one of the rare bathrooms that have a lot of space, you will enjoy more options when it comes to bathroom decor. For starters, your color choices will be much wider — darker hues like mahogany, dark blue, and even black will no longer be taboo if your bathroom is huge.

These dark hues will add a touch of richness to your bathroom, which is quite difficult to achieve in a smaller space.

Of course, you can still use the traditional light colors like white, beige, and yellow, which will make your space look even bigger. You can also install larger furniture like a cabinet to hold your towels and other toiletries. You may even put up separate sections in the bathroom for the tub, the shower, and the toilet.

Once the large pieces are in place, you can move on to the fun part of putting in the bathroom decor. There are no fast rules in this department but do make sure that the decor matches the rest of your bathroom instead of sticking out like a sore thumb.

For instance, if you have a color theme going in your bathroom, the decor would be perfect for tying in the different shades in the room altogether.

Typical bathroom decorations that you can use are vases, towels, toothbrush holders, rugs, soap dishes. In addition, you can also use non-traditional bathroom decor like plants. When adding plants to your bathroom, though, choose the kind that does not require much sunlight and thrives in a humid environment. The size of the plants that you should use should also depend on how big or how small your bathroom is.
